Local Support Groups

Cancer is one of the most stressful experiences you can go through and it helps to know you are not alone. Support groups help people in many ways. They provide emotional support with a safe place to discuss the challenges of cancer, allow sharing of similar experiences and sharing practical information and resources. Sometimes even the most supportive family and friends have difficulty understanding how you feel, which can lead to feelings of loneliness. You are not alone in your fight! Your care providers are behind you but by discussing your experience with others who have the same cancer you can reduce stress and feel less alone. The following are a list of local groups but there are also online communities as well:

Breast Support Group: The women’s breast cancer support group is a place for women to come together to exchange ideas, gather information and discuss concerns with others who are dealing with, have dealt with or are a support person for someone with breast cancer. The support group is a vital tool for women and loved ones dealing with the stress of cancer. This free support group meets the first Tuesday of every month at 5:30 PM in Carolinas Hospital (Education Classroom of Medical Mall B). To register of for more information please call 843-674-6206.

Lung Support Group: The support group at Carolinas Hospital System is a place for people to come together to exchange ideas, gather information and discuss concerns with others who are dealing with the stress of cancer as well as their loved ones or caregivers. This free support group meets at Carolinas Hospital (Education Classroom of Medical Mall B) the second Thursday of every month at 5:30 PM.
